Purpose:
Use the Position Control Delete action when it is necessary to delete a position. Deletion of a position is done when the position is no longer needed or funding has been discontinued.
The Position Status on the position must be vacant 'V' and the Position Headcount must be equal to zero.
All sub-forms on the Position Control Delete action will be displayed. The Effective Date is the only field that may be edited and must be a pay period begin date. Click the drop-down list and choose from a total of 16 (sixteen) pay period begin dates. This includes the three most recent pay period begin dates that have already been processed, the first one that has not been processed and twelve pay period begin dates in the future.
Automatic deletion of a vacant position is done when the position has been vacant for more than twelve (12) months. This is done at the end of each month. See below for examples. Refer to report A-445180 Delete Vacant Positions. Group positions (NG position type) and positions for legislative, elective, and judicial agencies will not be automatically deleted.

The Position Control Numbers that have been deleted for two or more years will not be automatically copied to the new Fiscal Year Position File. Refer to report B-448110 Deleted Position List.
